The Weekly W: Welcome!

 

Welcome (back) for another wonderful semester here at URI.  Welcomes in anime can be varied, from silly to dangerous, but they always start a story and often, new friendships.  Let's take a look at some first encounters!


First Up: Ouran High School Host Club

 Ouran is one of my favorite series (as you may have guessed).  It also has almost an entire episode of Haruhi's adventure as she ends up joining the host club.  The series is wacky and funny, and the first episode is no exception.  A quiet place to study turns out to be a popular host club, and within moments of her arrival, she ends up in debt.  This leads to (more) craziness as she begins to work for them to pay off her debt, and eventually ends up working as a host.  The whole thing is hilarious, and it ends up creating friendships and opportunities for more shenanigans as the series progresses.  All in all, it's a good way to start things off.

Second: Sword Art Online

Kirito and Klein become fast friends in Aincrad, as Kirito teaches him a few of the basic skills.  When the true dangers of SAO come to light, Klein realizes that Kirito has inadvertently given him a leg up on the other players, and possibly saved his life.  Despite the danger of the game, their friendship remains strong.  Kirito and Klein both make other friends and acquaintances while in SAO, but theirs remains the first.
