Anime Review: Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru

Hello, everyone this week they've put me in charge of reviewing an anime, so I've chosen to review an anime about choices.  To start off with the first thing to know about this show, other than that its name can only be written with copy and paste, is that it is a shounen romantic comedy.  This means that there is going to be some fanservice.  Once you get past that the show is fairly enjoyable.

The basic premise of the show is that the main character suffers from a curse called "Absolute Choice", which means that every once in a while two options are presented to him and he must choose one of them or die.  These choices range from what to say next, extreme acts of public humiliation, to temporary alterations to reality.  As one might expect these choices are causing our hero quite a bit of difficulty, fortunately God has stepped in to help him out.  He's sent down an angel to help the main character break this curse and has even figured out how to end the choices forever.  Unfortunately, God is new to the position and can't undo the curse directly and the angel he sent down has amnesia, granting them the mental abilities of the average 8 year old.  In order to be free of his curse the main character must complete seemingly random tasks that are sent to his cell phone, which tend to be just as undesirable as his choices.  The remainder of the cast are the hero's classmates who are also exceedingly socially abnormal including a girl who enters the classroom via the third story window and a childhood friend who wants to be everyones' little sister.

The show falls very nicely into the genre of light hearted harem romantic comedies based on light novels.  The fanservice is relatively tame and is mainly used as part of a more absurd situation.  The choices and missions the hero gets are a bit pervy but his begrudging attitude towards them and their absurdity helps balance this out.  The series does a decent job of developing the relationships between the main characters and hints at plots to be but ends without much resolution.

This is a trend with series like this one since the source material is a still being published light novel there is no canon ending as of yet.  With this in mind the show is made to allow for a second season to continue the story. Also writing an alternate ending especially considering the length of the show would either feel very forced or require significant rewriting neither of which are good choices for something based on a somewhat popular much longer source material.

Overall I would recommend this series if you want a good laugh and don't mind trying to explain what you're watching if someone walks in.
