Tom's Tuesdays Sword Art Online 1.

Madame President The Vice President here. This week I'm going to talk about Sword Art Online light novel. Their will be spoilers.

Sword Art Online is an ongoing series of light novels thier are currently 14 volumes out.

The Anime Covers 1,2,3,4 and some of 7 and 8.

Their are manga for all of these in parts and some in larger issues that only cover 1 and soon 3 and 4.
This week will be about Anicrad. Next week will Cover the Alfheim online. The week after that will be Gun Gale Online.

The story is about our main character Kirito. He is a fan of video games, this is due to the fact his parents died when he was very young and he was adopted by his aunt. He eventually learned this and went to video games to shut away the world. For in video games you can be anyone you want. He was a better tester for the first MMO to use the Nervegear, a machine that scans your brain waves and uses those signals to control your avatar while your body stays motionless. Only 1,000 people got into beta test and they were all guaranteed one of the 10,000 copies. The light novel starts with us in the game on the 74th floor and the game has been underway for over 2 years. Though we quickly learn some dark secrets about the game and we quickly jump back to day one of the launch. While Kirito is going to a cheap shop on a side street someone notices that he clearly isn't a new player and chases him down. Named Klein he asks for help learning the ropes and Kirito is happy to oblige. They buy weapons and head out to hunt boars. Their is no magic in Sword Art Online, which takes place on the 100 floor floating castle of Anicrad, instead they have "sword skills" which are powers that activate when you set up the starting motion and focus. Kirito shows this by picking up a rock and holding it behind his head to pitch and then it starts glowing and it shoots forward as he throws it. Faster then he could normally move the game picks up the slack.

After more training Klein gets ready to log off to get pizza and learns he can't. Kirito checks and the button is missing. Before they can contact anyone about this. They are teleported to the starting square. A large figure descends from the sky and tells everyone that they are stuck in the game and must clear 100 floors to be freed. If you die in the game you die in real life. Over 200 players had already died. You can't tamper with the machine and everyone will be given an hour to be transported to a hospital to get proper care. The light novel then skips ahead back to the 74th floor but later volumes let us know what happens next. Kirito quickly starts training as far away as he can to farm monsters with nobody around. He hunts monsters to get a really good sword for the first floor and to max out its level.  After one month 1,000 people have died and they are getting ready to hunt the first boss. A group of players decides that the beta testers are responsible for all the deaths as they should have warned everyone. Though one player Agil points out that the how to play pamphlet people can buy for free from shops is actually made by the beta testers and should not blame them for people dieing at that point as they all have access to it. They eventually fight the boss Kirito manages to eventually kill the boss and receives a cloak. He announces that he is the best beta tester and better than all the others. They label him a beater, beta-cheater, he does this so people will just dislike him but not anyone else for being beta tester. We then go through several side stories as he levels up as a solo player. He joins a guild and they all end up dead by a high level trap and this hurts Kirito so he dislikes the idea of Guilds and refocuses as a solo player. He takes a job for another Guild to hunt down some player killers and arrest them becuase he is over 20 levels higher then they are and they can't kill him even if they tried. He also joins a blacksmith on a quest to make himself a sword. This is the first time he shows anyone that he can equip two swords. Eventually we end up back at the 74th floor. He uses his ability to defeat the boss to save a few men that were forced by an idiot commander to fight the boss. Kirito then has to fight the leader of the top Guild and their leader who has the only other known unique skill(later told their should be 12 but only 2 happen to appear in any of the novels) Kirito losses to the boss and is forced to join the Guild. In his first mission he is nearly killed by a traitor so he manages to get out of the Guild and he marries a fellow guild mate and they move down to the 22nd floor, This is Asuna. She is really important. They find a small girl, Yue, one day who turns out to be a program by the game. She nearly dies but Kirito hacks the computer using her program access to take her program and put it on his nervgear's memory to have for later. They are then called back to the front line where they have to fight the 75th boss with a huge amount of players. They fight and it kills 14 of the 30something players who attend.

Kirito notices that only one person is still above 50% health. Heathcliff the leader of the top guild. He thinks back to their fight and thinks maybe he cheated and calls him out on being the game creator. He tells them he will go wait on the top floor for them or that Kirito can fight him with no cheats. Kirito agrees and has to fight without sword skills and Heathcliff knows them all. He eventually uses a sword skill and then when he is about to be killed Asuna jumps up and takes the attack and then Kirito breaks down though her sword is left he uses it to try and stab Heathcliff who dodges and stabs him anyway but before he dies he wills himself to not be gone yet and stabs right through him. As Kirito dies he sees it flash across his vision that the game has been one. He wakes up next to Asuna and they are floating above the floating castle as it falls apart. Heathcliff shows up in his true form and they have a conversation on why he made the world. It was always his dream and he wanted to do it. He just happened to kill almost 4,000 players in the process. He then tells them that everything is being destoryed and that he is having a giant brain scan to take his mind into the virtual world.

Which if you think about is really messed up as he is putting his mind into a system that he is deleting.

Kirito and Asuna decide to meet in real life and give each other their real and full names. Kirito then wakes up in a hospital bed. struggles his way out and wanders off to go find people to find Asuna. The story of Anicrade then ends.

Next week we move onto the next game and more of Kirito's adventures.
