This series is set after a war between two countries on on continent. Our main Character Van is living in a village and is one day attacked by bandits while away from the village he ends up finding and old set of ruins to hide in and ends up opening a pod, This pod releases a small mechanical dinosaur that picks up Van and Brings to life the remains of a nearby Zoids (a shield liger) He fights off the bandits. He goes back to the ruins and opens a second pod with a girl with no memories. They decide to travel together to try and get her memories back. They quickly end up fighting both sides of the previous war though quickly befriending a transport driver and a mercenary they end up getting sucked into the war.
The series was released in 1999 so the animation and fights are akin to what was pretty standard. They reuse some footage but the characters all have goals and they change and grow as the show goes on.
It's an interesting enough world and is a real mecha compared to super mecha

Super Mecha, robots get stronger by yelling, they do things over the top.
