Anime Review: My Little Monster

I was browsing crunchroll about a year ago when I happened to find this show.  One episode later, I was hooked.  My Little Monster (Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun) is a short, funny rom-com.  Slapstick humor, occasional seriousness, and learning about friendship are the main points in this series.

Our main characters are Mizutani Shizuku and Yoshida Haru.

Shizuku is a hard-working, serious student working hard to get the best grades.  She meets Haru when she delivers his homework from school.

Haru is, at first appearance, an intimidating troublemaker.  His classmates were intimidated by him, and he stopped attending school, instead memorizing the material at home.  When Shizuku delivers his handouts, he decides she is his friend, and starts attending school again.

Despite a rocky start, since Shizuku doesn't want to waste time she could spend studying and preparing for her future, Haru and Shizuku end up making a few good friends.

The best character in the series is Nagoya.  One day, Haru rescues Nagoya and wants to take him home, but is not allowed pets at his apartment.  As such, they get together and build him a chicken coop to live in at the school.

This series is very funny, and occasionally gets pretty serious.  It's fun to watch, and I'd definitely recommend it.
