Meandering Mondays: Geek Life: part 1 Gaming club

Now that we've completed our voting for our first fall lineup I figured I'd mention some of the other organizations that are part of Geek Life on campus.  The four members of Geek Life and the Gaming club, Qudditch Team, Humans versus Zombies and the Anime club.  This week I'm going to to go over the basics of the Gaming club and their subsidiary activity as the URI Poke'mon League.

The Gaming club is in room 359 and unlike most organizations their office is open most of the day.  Their office is basically 2 rooms filled with board games and video game systems that can be used by anyone who wanders in.  The club is a great place to spend some time on campus since there are always people there doing something either playing Magic or some obscure video game.  They meet at 5pm on Tuesdays in room 360 (just across the hall) to discuss their official business and their president is Will Botta.

The other major part of the Gaming club is their status as an official Poke'mon League.  Twice a week Poke'mon fans converge in the second floor lounge of the Union and face off in the video games or with the trading cards to collect badges.  They meet at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and thend to last until 8:30.  As you play you get points and when you get enough you get free stuff and eventually badges.  They also organize tournaments on occasion which can earn points to go to the world championships which gives away exclusive promo cards.

Also the club runs a pair of events called mini con and Gaming con in the fall and spring respectively.  Both feature a weekend of gaming events all over the union ranging from one shot roleplaying campaigns to video game tournaments.  The Anime club also runs a viewing room for the entirety of Gaming con in the spring which features the Eric Boyton HamHam hour, one of the highest attendance events during the weekend.

That's just about all I know about the Gaming club.  I recall hearing rumors of a League of Legends club trying to form as a separate entity but have not heard news of their progress.  I'll be back next week to talk about Humans versus Zombies just before their major activities start.
