Anime Review: Maouyuu Maou Yuusha

Well it's Thursday again and it's finally my turn to do another anime review.  This time I'm going to review Maouyuu Maou Yuusha.  This show is a part of the recent fad of Demon Lord(Maou) and Hero(Yuusha) comedies that have been coming out recently. I've honestly been intending to watch this show for quite a while now and finally got around to it over the summer so while it's fresh in my mind let's get started.

The basic premise for this show is that when the Hero arrives at the Demon Lord's palace he finds that his destined foe is in fact a woman and completely uninterested in fighting.  She then proceeds to prove that the war between the demons and humanity is stabilizing both societies and that ending it would lead to mass starvation.  The two decide to team up to improve society to the point where the war can end without causing chaos and disaster.  They mainly do this by introducing new agricultural and economic theories to key members of society.

As in many similar series the main romance is between the Demon Lord and Hero but instead of falling for each other over the course of the series, the agreement between the two of them can also be interpreted as a marriage.  This leads to their relationship being that of two newlyweds who don't really know each other which gives the show a unique flavor.

This series very accurately portrays various changes in Europe that ended the dark ages.  Based on this I would recommend the show to anyone who likes economics or history.  The show also features a fair bit of political maneuvering which some people enjoy.  Lastly I would recommend this show to anyone who enjoyed Spice and Wolf since this show is very similar, at least according to what others have told me about Spice and Wolf .
