Manga Review: Necromancer

Welcome back everyone, this week I'll be reviewing
a short manga called Necromancer.  As the name implies the story is about a man who can bring the dead back to life in exchange for 3 years of your life.  His name is Asutsuo and he plies his trade on Slum Street, offering to bring back loved ones in exchange for your eternal soul.

Each chapter tells the story of another of Asutsuo's customers, whose resurrections often lead to monkey's paw type outcomes.  Sometimes these are due to the quirks the resurrected person acquires as a result of necromancy but more often it is the living who have sinister motives.  However Asutsuo never intervenes directly, accepting his customers' insistence that they do not care about the risks and consequences of the deal he offers.

The series  is only 20 chapters long, and while the content is very grim, it is presented in a very dispassionate manner.  This gives the story a feel very much like that of Franken Fran and Mushishi, disturbing but also calm and relaxing.

Well, I'll see all of you tomorrow in my weekly post
